The Boston Marathon took place yesterday, and it was a great day for Kenyan born Geoffrey Kirui, the winner of the marathon. He completed the 26.2 mile race in a mere 2 hours, nine minutes, and 38 seconds (averaging only 5 minutes per mile). He was also blessed with the highest prize money in the race’s 120 year history, at $150,000.
But he wasn’t the only person of note, yesterday. Retired Marine Staff Sgt. Jose Luis Sanchez, who lost the lower portion of his left leg after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan in 2011, was televised crossing the finish line waving the American flag.
