America’s Oldest Living Veteran Likes Whiskey in His Coffee

Veteran

Meet America’s oldest living veteran – 109-year-old Richard Overton.

Mr. Overton is a World War II veteran, born on May 11, 1906 in Bastrop County, Texas. He served three years in the U.S. Army. Among his stops were Hawaii, Guam, Palau, and Iwo Jima.

He still lives in the same house he bought when he came home from World War II in Austin and still drives an old Ford truck.

He starts most days sitting on his front porch, smoking a cigar, and sipping coffee spiked with whiskey.

“I drink whiskey in my coffee. Sometimes I drink it straight. I smoke my cigars, blow the smoke out – I don’t swallow it,” he told CNN.

I’m betting he’s never heard of or worried about anything gluten-free or organic!

When asked how long he expected to live, he said “Whatever God gives me. If he gives me 10 more years, I hope I’ll be able to take it. If he gives me 5, I hope I’ll be able to take it.”

Is there anyone more American than Mr. Overton?
