In a Battle Between Sarah Palin and PETA, You Know Who Won

You might have missed this showdown over the holidays, but it was a good one, even if you’re not a fan of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Palin posted a sweet photo of her son Trig, who was born with Downs Syndrome, to her public Facebook page. Trig is seen doing what many kids his age have been known to do: standing on the family dog in order to gain a few inches.

PETA predictably ramped up the outrage machine, calling out the mother of a special-needs child for animal cruelty. In each picture Palin posted, it doesn’t appear the adopted family pet minds in the least being used as a step-stool, let alone is being abused. After PETA publicized their criticisms, Palin went “Momma Grizzly” on the hypocritical animal advocacy organization, highlighting their silence on other instances of celebrity “animal cruelty,” like a photo on talk show host Ellen DeGeneres’ own Facebook page showing the same sweet bond between a child and her dog:

The real Palin zinger though, came with her statement on President Obama’s famous admission of eating a dog while living in Indonesia as a young person,

Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?

Predictably, PETA’s response omitted any direct response to Palin on the photo Ellen posted and the admission about dog meat in President Obama’s biography.
