IRONY. Kenneth Starr just praised Bill Clinton and downplayed the sex scandals and rape allegations attached to him. And then, this: Baylor President and Chancellor Kenneth Starr has been fired by the Board of Regents in the wake of a sexual assault scandal involving the school and its football team.
Something is fishy!
In the 90s, during Clinton’s impeachment proceedings, Starr went after the former President like Captain Ahab to Moby Dick! He didn’t back down against Democratic threats, as he was the independent investigator who published a huge report on what happened after questioning almost everyone in Washington, DC.
Now he’s backing and praising Bill while under investigation. Excuse me, but I wasn’t born yesterday. This smells like a Clinton cover-up in the worst way.
Kenneth W. Starr, whose aggressive investigation of Bill Clinton in the 1990s helped lead to Clinton’s impeachment, now has praise for the former president.
Starr reflected on the investigation — which ultimately focused on Clinton’s affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky — during a recent panel discussion on the presidency at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, according to The New York Times.
“There are certain tragic dimensions which we all lament,” he said. “That having been said, the idea of this redemptive process afterwards, we have certainly seen that powerfully.”
Starr praised Clinton for following former president Jimmy Carter’s example of setting a “high standard” of charity work once out of office.
And he had kind words for Clinton’s political skills as well, calling him the “the most gifted politician of the Baby Boomer generation.”
“His genuine empathy for human beings is absolutely clear,” Starr said. “It is powerful, it is palpable and the folks of Arkansas really understood that about him — that he genuinely cared. The ‘I feel your pain’ is absolutely genuine.”
Starr, who is currently the president of Baylor University, is in the middle of a scandal over accusations that the school failed to respond to multiple rape and sexual assault reports.
Think about what this does to Monica Lewinsky! Starr also changed Lewinsky’s life. He released details of the affair that were disgusting, and it was totally unnecessary. She should be able to sue him. Can you imagine if she was your daughter? I would want to do terrible things to both men. Thank God, I’ve never had to go through what Monica and her parents did.
Far too little, far too late, Mr. Starr. The extreme political rancor between the two parties we find ourselves in began with Starr and Clinton in the early 90s. They can claim most of the credit for our permanent state of partisan gridlock. I doubt, however, that either Starr or Clinton will ever have the guts to admit their guilt.
