Boehner Demands Answers On VA Scandal: What The Hell Happened?

House Speaker John Boehner is demanding answers as to why nobody has been held accountable, and nothing has been fixed in the year since a wait-time scandal at the Veterans Affairs (VA) that cost people their lives and led to the resignation of then-Secretary Eric Shinseki.

VA Secretary Robert McDonald said in a television interview in February that 60 people had been fired for their connection to the scandal. That number was later revised down to 14. However, the New York Times reported in late April that in fact, only one person had been legitimately fired.

In a House Floor Speech, Boehner mentioned the lone job termination, and asked “What the hell happened to the rest of them?”

He added that arrogance at the VA and within the Obama administration is “allow(ing) our vets to be lied to and ignored and, frankly, to die.”

Via the Washington Examiner:

House Speaker John Boehner Wednesday called on President Obama to come up with a “long term plan” to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs, which remains plagued with problems a year after the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki.

“Instead of a new day at the VA, the American people are seeing more of the same,” Boehner said in a floor speech.

The VA’s notoriously long wait times for veterans to obtain medical care have not improved, Boehner said, and the department is still plagued with waste, fraud and abuse.

“This isn’t run of the mill incompetence,” Boehner said. “It’s arrogance that allows our vets to be lied to and ignored and, frankly, to die.”

The Speaker went on to remind his colleagues that with Memorial Day approaching, wait times for patients at the VA have remained “about the same” while funds continue to be mismanaged.

“The president owes the American people a real, long-term plan to fix the VA,” he concluded. “Not a promise, not a pledge, not rearranging the chairs on a deck—a real plan to clean up this mess.”

Comment: Our veterans deserve a better solution to the VA scandal than just the firing of one person. What would you say to President Obama for his lack of respect for our veterans?
