Last night was the first night of the Democratic National Convention, and the evening featured a plethora of far-left speakers touting Hillary Clinton’s Socialist agenda.
While the Democrats tried their best to paint themselves as a united party, new polling seems to suggest that Republican Donald J. Trump failed to receive any significant bump from last week’s RNC convention.
A new NBC News/Survey Monkey poll found that Hillary Clinton leads Trump 46%-45%, a stark contrast to a CNN poll released on Monday which showed Trump leading his Democratic rival 48%-45%.
The Manhattan billionaire trails the former secretary of state by a single point, 45 percent to 46 percent, according to an NBC News/Survey Monkey online poll released Tuesday morning. Those numbers are unchanged from last week’s data.
A CNN poll released yesterday showed Trump gaining a bump from the convention, leading Clinton 48 percent to 45 percent in a two-way matchup.
The good news for Trump is that his lead over Clinton grew to two points when Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Gary Johnson were included. The GOP nominee holds a 41 percent to 39 percent edge over Clinton in the four-way race, while Johnson earned 10 percent and Stein earned 5 percent.
The convention, intended to unify still-skeptical Republicans behind their party’s nominee, seems to have done just that. His approval rating among Republicans climbed to 79 percent in the wake of the convention, up from 70 percent two weeks ago.
While both CNN and NBC have conflicting results in their most recent polling, one thing is certain: the race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is neck-in-neck.
Those who have argued for months that Donald Trump would never beat Hillary in November seem to have been proven wrong as poll after poll consistently shows the GOP businessman in striking distance of his Democratic opponent.
