The women’s march attracted millions on Saturday, and while you didn’t have to look far to find women speaking out against “going back to the 1950s,” one of the key organizers of the event would rather see women go back to the 1500s.
It’s common to hear conservative criticisms of feminism in its current state for not doing enough to solve actual problems that women face, and instead focus on invented problems, like “mansplaining,” the non-existent gender wage gap, or the fact that “society” expects women to shave their armpits. Rather, conservatives will argue, the modern feminist movement would have much more credibility if it were to focus on parts of the world where women actually are institutionally oppressed – like in no shortage of Muslim nations in the Middle East.
But make sure you don’t present that to women’s march organizer Linda Sarsour – or you’ll quickly “learn” that in the Middle East everything is A-OK for women! Here are some of her most insane (and anti-woman) tweets:
Yes – women TOTALLY don’t think about being covered head to toe in black polyester in the scorching heat of Saudi Arabia. I guess it’s not a problem for them because they can’t leave their home without their husband’s guardianship anyway.
Next we learn that it’s no problem that women can’t drive in Saudi Arabia because they get free s–t from the government.
Next up, we learn that women’s rights aren’t really that much of an issue in Saudi Arabia because they have women in parliament. She seems to have neglected that women have only been allowed to serve in Saudi parliament since 2013.
And to top it off, here’s her defense of Sharia Law.
Err – let’s take a second look at that….
Apparently implementing a legal system that stones women to death for being raped, cuts the hands off thieves, and throws homosexuals off rooftops is just the price we all have to pay to forgo that 20% APR on our credit cards. What a deal!
