Michael Enright is a Hollywood actor who abandoned his career to fight ISIS. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star was motivated by the beheading death of American journalist James Foley.
Enright is with the Kurdistan YPG. He wanted to work with the Kurds because he said the Kurds don’t run from ISIS. He traveled to Syria’s Rojava region earlier this year to train in the YPG’s academy for several weeks. He didn’t tell his family that he was leaving as he didn’t want them to attempt to talk him out of leaving.
The actor has a history of getting engaged in international conflicts. He traveled to India to meet with Mother Teresa and worked with refugees following the Rwandan genocide.
Enright told Fox 411 he is not concerned with returning to Los Angeles for his acting career.
“I don’t care about being famous or any of that crap,” he said. “I made a commitment to stay until ISIS is at least out of Rojava.”
Enright is in favor of Great Britain sending troops to fight ISIS to help end the conflict sooner. He said they also are in need of heavy weapons to complete their mission.
Not everyone is pleased with Enright’s involvement with the YPG. Jordan Matson, a former US soldier, has claimed that Enright is there only to seek publicity. Enright has dismissed these claims and said he is speaking with the media in an attempt to get support from the UK government.
