Police Officer William Stacy is a prime example of a public servant, as Tarrant, Alabama resident Helen Johnson will tell you.
Helen was caught attempting to shoplift eggs from a Dollar General. She was 50 cents short to buy a carton of eggs, so she tried putting them in her pocket.
“Of course when I put them in my jacket pocket they broke. I’m not a good thief at all,” Helen said.
Officer Stacy was called to the scene, but instead of arresting her, Officer Stacy bought eggs for Helen in exchange for a promise that she would never shoplift again.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, thank you Jesus for this man. He is my hero,” Helen said.
A bystander caught the exchange on video and posted it to Facebook:
There has since been an outpouring of support and donations from community members. Helen and her two daughters, niece, and two grandchildren have never seen their refrigerator so full. Officer Stacy helped deliver the food, and Helen couldn’t be more grateful.
