Ronda Rousey admitted she almost killed herself following her first ever UFC loss. Rousey confessed to having suicidal thoughts during an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that aired Tuesday.
“In the medical room, I was down in the corner, I was sitting in the corner and I was like ‘what am I anymore if I’m not this?’” Rousey said as DeGeneres passed her a tissue. “And I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself in that exact second, I’m nothing. Like what do I do anymore? And no one gives an [expletive] about me anymore without this.”
Many do not know Rousey’s father committed suicide when she was 8 years old and the mere thought of losing her father may have also been a reason why Rousey quickly shook off any thoughts of taking her own life.
Many athletes seem to be under the impression that they are indestructible and will never lose at their sport.
I know this is an attitude they must have and must always be confident that they are unbeatable.
The reality is, someone out there can and will burst your bubble. This means some day someone is going to whoop that butt and you better be ready to face that day.
It may never come if you’re extremely fortunate, but chances are one day you’ll meet your match.
She’ll be ok. She fought the best woman’s fighter in the world and it appeared that she had no idea just how great Holm is. Rousey was not prepared properly by her team. Holm is a vastly more experienced fighter and IS a spectacular fighter. She has great footwork, glides from side to side, never stays in front of an opponent too long, has long powerful legs for effective kicking, and delivers a classically trained punching technique with power. Holm is the whole package.
But even she can be beaten by just a lucky punch – that’s real fighting.
We’re praying for you Ronda! What did you think of her situation? Share your comments below and do you think she should get back in the ring to fight again?
