With Hillary Clinton on the verge of losing tomorrow’s Wisconsin Primary to Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, the Democratic frontrunner is now unable to match her Socialist competitor in fundraising!
Clinton, who has the support of the Democratic establishment, has failed to capture the enthusiasm of the far-left part of her base, and thus has struggled to meet fundraising goals she set for herself.
Hillary Clinton raised $29.5 million in March, her campaign reported Monday, claiming victory despite coming in far below Bernie Sanders’ monthly haul of $44 million.
The campaign said it began April with $29 million on hand, noting that more than 50 percent of the $29.5 million total came from online “grassroots donations.” Clinton also raised $6.1 million through the Democratic National Committee and state parties last month, with the quarterly total around $15 million.
“By making smart investments and beating our first quarter fundraising goal by nearly 50 percent, we’ve been able to build a nearly insurmountable pledged delegate lead and earned 2.5 million more votes than our opponent,” campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement. “As Hillary Clinton has progressed through the primary, we’ve seen a surge of grassroots support across the country and are thrilled that we now have more than one million contributors to this campaign, most of whom have given less than $100.”
The total is roughly $15 million less than the amount raised by Sanders in the same time frame. The Vermont senator reported raising around $44 million last Friday following the midnight Federal Election Commission filing deadline. Sanders’ $44 million month broke his previous record set in February, when the campaign took in approximately $43.5 million.
