How Every Media Outlet Turned Pamela Geller Into the Villain

On Sunday, two gunmen entered an event sponsored by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) with one objective in mind: to kill as many attendees of the “Draw Mohammed Contest” as they possibly could. Thanks to the preparedness of the event coordinators and the local police, there was one injury, that of a police officer defending those present. The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Yesterday, we discussed how differently the attack has been treated from a similar one in Paris at the offices of Charlie Hebdo.

You wouldn’t know from the media coverage of the event that those responsible were from ISIS, however. The media has turned Geller into Public Enemy No. 1. Here are some visual representations of that fact on various homepages of news organizations across the web:

In a sane world, the attack would refocus attention on the threat of Islamic terrorism.

COMMENT BELOW: Do you trust the mainstream media?

  1. Dan says:

Pam Geller is not the villain here. The one observation that I keep coming back to ever time I read an article about this event is that NO ONE is asking the important question, and that is – “Under Sharia law, would either of these muslim extremist have been charged with a crime had they been successful in murdering everyone at that event? And the answer is “No”. Sharia law is separate from the Quran, the Quran does state that drawing the image of the prophet is considered blasphemy and that it should be avoided, but no place in the Quran, does it state a punishment. However, In Pakistan, for example, several sections of its Criminal Code comprise its blasphemy laws. Blasphemy merits the death penalty under Section 295C of the Pakistan Penal Code:

‘Use of derogatory remarks etc. in respect of the Holy Prophet[saw]: Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation, or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life and shall also be liable to fine.’
In 1987, the Federal Shariah Court revised the law to declare that blasphemy was punishable only with death and that no lighter punishment could be awarded.
What people like Pam Geller are doing is important. They need to make people understand what entertaining the idea of allowing Muslim communites to implement Sharia law here in the USA will mean in the long term for our country and civilization
