Labor Day was earlier this month, but while I was enjoying my day off, I couldn’t help but think that it’s a bit inappropriate for Barack Obama to be celebrating it. Not only has the man presided over the slowest economic recovery in sixty years, his relaxed stance on illegal immigration proves that it isn’t necessarily just American labor the man is celebrating.
As the comedian Adam Carolla once joked back in 2011, “we have laws that basically say you need to be documented if you’re in this country. We have a long list of people who would like to come to this country legally, but there’s people who are jumping in front of that list… and we’ve had laws for a hundred years that say you need to come here legally… then at some point someone says ‘hey, maybe we should enforce these laws’ and everyone else says ‘well OK Hitler.'” Oh how right he was, especially with the Hitler comparisons.
The overwhelming majority of our illegal immigration woes could be solved simply by enforcing the laws on the books. If you want just a taste of how true that is, look at the fate of the overwhelming majority of illegals who are caught crossing the border.
A U.S. Border Patrol agent told Fox News Channel that eight out of ten illegal immigrants who are captured at the border are initially set free into the United States.
Border Patrol Agent Hector Garza, acting in his role as president of the National Border Patrol Council, Local 2455, appeared on Fox News Channel recently to discuss border security and the need for building a wall. “Eight out of ten people that are caught entering our country illegally are not deported and are allowed to stay in the United States,” Garza explained. “Unfortunately for Border Patrol agents, we are trying to do our jobs as best we can with the very limited resources that we have.”
Garza expressed his frustration at the lack of resources made available to the agents charged with defending this nation’s borders.
“We do not have enough vehicles for our agents to patrol with, we do not get the manpower that we need.” He continued by discussing the lack of proper infrastructure to safely do their jobs – including communications equipment, tower cameras and weapons.
“Through executive orders and prosecutorial discretion … Most of the people that we apprehend end up getting released into the country,” he said while expressing his frustration. He explained that with the limited amount of manpower available, “It is very difficult to adequately patrol the border.”
“Keep in mind,” Garza continued, “if we don’t have enough agents out there, there are going to be people who are going to get away – and we don’t know who those people are. The only people that we know who they are are the ones we are actually catching.”
We could end illegal immigration tomorrow – we’d just have to let border patrol do their jobs.
When it comes to government agencies like the DMV or VA, it’s not uncommon for people to complain that government workers aren’t doing their jobs (or at least aren’t doing them well). When it comes to border patrol, the Federal government seems intent on making sure they can’t do their job, no matter how badly they actually want to.
It’s obvious why Obama is OK with this – because he doesn’t see illegal immigrants as people – he see’s them as future Democrat voters. Get the word out, share this post on Facebook and Twitter!
