In 1954, President Eisenhower Had a Border Invasion Crisis… And His Response Makes Obama Look PATHETIC

President Dwight D. Eisenhower was never a community organizer. Instead, he was a five-star general in the Army during World War II and was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. He had a brilliant military mind and knew how to crush the German Nazis on the battlefield.

But back at home, America’s southern border was even more porous than it is today. Over a few years, 3 million illegal immigrants crossed the border in the early 1950s to work in California, Texas, and Arizona.

And as historians will tell you, Eisenhower handled the situation swiftly and kept America secure:

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents – less than one-tenth of today’s force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Although there is little to no record of this operation in Ike’s official papers, one piece of historic evidence indicates how he felt. In 1951, Ike wrote a letter to Sen. William Fulbright (D) of Arkansas. The senator had just proposed that a special commission be created by Congress to examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.

General Eisenhower, who was gearing up for his run for the presidency, said “Amen” to Senator Fulbright’s proposal. He then quoted a report in The New York Times, highlighting one paragraph that said: “The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican ‘wetbacks’ to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government.”

With the help of Gen. Joseph “Jumpin’ Joe” Swing, commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Eisenhower launched a nationwide program to locate illegal immigrants and give them the boot. This is because Eisenhower knew the importance of defending American sovereignty against those which do not respect our laws.

Could you imagine Obama doing this? Of course not, as Obama has created today’s illegal immigration crisis for political purposes.

Do you support deporting illegals, just like Eisenhower did? Please leave us a comment and tell us what you think.

  1. Eric says:

I have to completely concur with this approach to rid America of all these illegal aliens. All, we continue to hear from both political parties is how much money this will cost us, but how much money has it already cost us…with far more yet to follow. We also need to address the “anchor baby” issue, because if you go to Mexico and are there as an illegal then they will deport you! So, why can’t, and aren’t we doing the very same? Go Trump!

  2. Toni says:

Before deporting these heathen, round them up and put them to work on The Great Wall of America …

150 feet high, 100 feet wide, moat on both sides. Alligators or Parana would be useful and self sustaining (i.e., ecologically friendly). Then re-deploy the BP Agents to the remaining tasks of collapsing tunnels, sinking ships, and tracking down those who over-stay their visas

    THEN deport them.

    Problem solved.

  3. K Thomas says:

I am often amazed at the ignorance and racism of many of the writers like this.NO President has invited or supported illegal immigrants, or asked to show them mercy. The so called migrants from Mexicao used to come as
seasonal laborers from hundres of years ago, and The American Farmers welcomed them abused them and used the. This reduced cost of living to all, in the form of reduced cost to pick Tomatoes, Lemons and Strawberries. Cleaning homes, and streets and tarring roads at 100 degree temps and more. They were given no benefits, for doing hard work as they paid taxes in stores and to but gas, rent etc. To use those words about poor laborers and at the same time happily allow the very rich to use them( maids , drivers, painters) and pay little taxes, does that sound right.
These poorly informed kow middle class people blame Obama for every problem, not realizing more Mexicans have been deported by him, and few are coming last few years! Surprise eh?
There are many very serious problems in which this low educated low middle class folks and their R reps. have made the Govt of Obama, a popularly elected leader to operate.

    1. Vickie says:

Eisenhower deported many and this caused many to self deport. It can be done, but our Administration is for the illegal parasites that cost taxpayers over $100 Billion annually.

  4. California’s Population would be HALVED.

    1. First thing: eliminate anchor babies’ citizenship, Like every other country assign citizenship to that of the parents. If you have the same citizenship as the parents, no issues with deporting the entire family. No “Dreamers, and their entire extended family tree with de facto immunity from deportation”. Second eliminate “Catch and release” of illegals, if in custody process them for deportation immediately, Within 72 hours. If their countries do not want them back? Prison. AND cut off financial aid of all types to that country. SANCTIONS. If those countries have US citizens in jail? Demand they be returned to face Justice here. Third: Alien Criminals: If they are criminals here, prison, no time off for ‘good behavior’, and THEN mandatory deportation. If they return to the USA? Prison. Then deport again. Fourth: Visa Violations, If they come on a visa and it expires, IMMEDIATE deportation, No hearings or trials, they violate the agreement for a limited stay, and they are GONE. AND they do not come back.

Employers of illegals: Fines for first offense, if more than one offense, shut down the business for 1 Year. If obviously hiring illegals in mass? OR repeat offenses? Permanent shut down and forfeiture of assets. Prison time for those who consciously violate. Payment of wages “under the table”? Charges for Tax Evasion and forfeiture of assets. Auction off assets to pay for deportations.

Those already here with Citizen children? Allow them to stay until children are 18, or 22 if they are residing at home and attending College, If they leave school? deport all but those BORN in The USA. If parents and others are aliens, deport them when children who are citizens reach majority, or marry.

HOWEVER no permanent residency because of marrying a US Citizen, allow them to apply for citizenship and legal status in place, (a temporary residence card) if they can demonstrate

      1. No criminal record

      2. A lawful employment (*with an alien work permit), and full participation in our tax system. Full sponsorship by the spouse, including documentation of co-habitation as a married family. If a divorce, separation etc occurs within 5 years, deportation. After five years, naturalization as a legal resident alien, through the normal process.

Foreign aliens should be BARRED from serving in the Military. This is a loyalty issue. If you are going to fight for America your loyalty to other nations needs to be resolved first. NO citizenship awarded for being an illegal resident alien in the Military. NO benefits from your illegality. An Honorable Discharge should require you be a citizen, otherwise you are already in violation of your honor.

Establish rights that go along with Citizenship, and those which go along with just being present. General civil laws should apply to those who are present, and specific PRIVILEGES and RIGHTS to those who are citizens. Property ownership. Things like VOTING. Attending Public Higher Education, at resident tuition rates. Things like Government employment. Joining the Military. Being elected to office, serving as employees of Cities and States. Being a Law Enforcement officer, How can you enforce the laws if you are a violator? Citizenship should have incentives to achieve it, and something definable to make it desirable. It has to mean something substantial. Things Like DRIVER’s Licenses should depend on lawful presence. Unlawful presence should not have the benefits of citizenship.

  5. Richard says:

Absolutely the Illegal Immigrants should be identified, located and deported back to their country of origin. What makes them (Illegal Immigrants) think that once they arrive illegally that they should be able to remain in America? If they wanted to be here legally they should process the proper documents for that purpose. Otherwise don’t expect to remain here because you were sneaky enough to slide by the Border Patrol Officers. If they know up front that they will not be allowed to work in the USA, and that they will be deported will more then likely deter their desire to cross the border without proper documentation so.

  6. Alfred says:

Deport all illegals including President Obama since most records indicate he also is an illegal.

  7. Palmer says:

A little revisionist history going on here. Operation Wetback was put in place at the urging of the Mexican government over labor discussions with the United States. Mexico viewed the bracero program in the United States as an obstacle to its industrial growth while the Ag industry in the United States needed cheap labor. The Operation is viewed as a black eye and failure.

  8. Charles says:

“Of course not, as Obama has created today’s illegal immigration crisis for political purposes.”

It’s cute how stupid you are. Learn a little something about Central American politics, the role the Reagan administration played in destabilizing that region, then come back and say that Obama created this crisis so I can laugh at your stupidity. God will judge you for your lies and I will pray for your soul.

  9. Larry says:

A man with sterling qualities who knew the dangers of unabated access to our shores and it’s weakening of our political structure! We know how to curb these ingrates, and it’s high time to bring back the backbone,
that is part of our rich heritage!

  10. Carll says:

You say no record of this: Hoover did not use immigration policy to “create jobs” and never “ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens.” During his four-year presidency, roughly 121,000 persons were officially deported or induced to leave through threat of deportation, according to our analysis of official statistics. (We explain our sources and analytical methods fully in the “Where We Got The Numbers” section below.)
Truman did not try to “create jobs for returning veterans” by ordering deportations. In fact, he signed legislation protecting the rights of Mexican migrant laborers recruited legally to help harvest U.S. crops, and was unable to win congressional approval of measures to crack down on employers of illegal immigrants. During his nearly eight years in office, about 3.4 million were deported or left “voluntarily” under threat of deportation.
Eisenhower did not deport 13 million Mexicans. Only one-tenth that number was ever claimed by the federal officials in charge of “Operation Wetback,” and even that figure is criticized as inflated by guesswork. Officially, just over 2.1 million were recorded as having been deported or having departed under threat of deportation.

  11. Garlin says:

I am in total agreement with Eisenhower’s approach. This new idea that our immigration policy is ‘broken’. It may not be perfect, but no one person, not even the president, can change the law on their own. Is it too much to ask that the president follow the law of the land?

  12. Shirley says:

Our borders are NOT SECURE…Obama needs to CLOSE the border. He has had almost 8 yrs. and has not done anything to keep AMERICA and its Citzens safe from those that are trying to destroy us.

  13. Gloria says:

No one in either party has the courage to do this.
    Three Presidents
What did Presidents Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?
This is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn’t know of this until it was pointed out to me.
Back during the great depression, Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.
Harry Truman deported over two million illegal aliens after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.
In 1954 Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexicans. The program was called Operation Wetback. It was done so WWII and Korean veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took two years, but they deported them!
Now if they could deport the illegal aliens back then, they could sure do it today. If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.
Why you might ask can’t they do this today? Actually the answer is quite simple. Hoover , Truman, and Eisenhower were men of honor who loved their country, not untrustworthy politicians looking for votes!
Reminder: Don’t forget to pay your taxes – 12 to 20 million illegal aliens – are depending on you!

  14. Mike says:

kick them out like IKE did unless they are willing to do it the legal way

  15. Rick says:

Yes deport all illegals including those in the White House.

  16. Rick says:

Yes I like to see all illegals getting deported back to where they came from including Obama.

  17. Al says:

We need to deport and ban ALL illegals in this country, I don’t care how many there are, or how long it takes, and this includes the illegal mooselems that are also invading our country!

  18. Bob says:

Yes I do. I believe that we should close the borders take care of our own before we take care of the problems of the world , before our country falls to ruin.

  19. Troy says:

Absolutely I support deporting liberal’s. It set a bad example letting them stay in our country for the people who are obeying the immigration law. Not to mention prison costs, and keeping money made in our country to be spent in our country for our economy.

  20. Tom says:

The total abandonment of our Borders and sovereignty is nothing short of treasonous . Leaving our borders open and releasing tens of thousands of convicted criminals into out society is pure madness on a huge scale . To allow tens of millions unskilled and uneducated people to just walk into our country unchallenged is going to hurt countless American citizens who are looking for jobs or to simply better themselves .
