A ton of money is spent on welfare each year, but how much actually ends up helping the poor? As it turns out, for the tremendous sum we pay, most is wasted. Just look at how much we spend verses how many people remain impoverished:
$668 billion spent by 126 federal anti-poverty programs.
$284 billion spent by state welfare programs.
$952 BILLION TOTAL SPENT PER YEAR
That’s $86,000 per family of four in poverty. And yet 47 million remain in poverty.
