According to a story that ran earlier this year, while ISIS may believe they have God on their side, there’s no State they fear more than Israel. That’s according to German journalist Jürgen Todenhöfer, who spent 10 days in ISIS territory, publishing his findings in a book. “The only country Isis fears is Israel – they told me they know the Israeli army is too strong for them,” Mr Todenhöfer said. “They know the Israelis are very tough as far as fighting against guerrillas and terrorists.”
As it turns out, even ISIS is right about some things.
In the first direct attack on Israeli forces since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, four Islamic State gunmen opened fire on Israeli soldiers — and were promptly killed.
The Daily Mail reports the Israeli soldiers were protecting the Golan Heights and were members of the Golani Brigade. Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the Israeli military, described the exchange as “unique” in magnitude. He said jihadist fighters, riding in a vehicle with a machine gun mounted on its roof, had assaulted an Israeli reconnaissance unit with gunfire and mortars on the Israeli-controlled side of the contested territory.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his congratulations to the Israeli soldiers who successfully countered the attack, saying that Israel would not let insurgents use the Syrian civil war as “cover” to establish themselves on Israel’s border.
Here’s a new way to defeat ISIS – convince them it’s a good idea to attack Israel.
How long until we wipe ISIS off the map? With Donald Trump taking office in just a few months, I’d say sooner rather than later.
