This Kentucky man is getting a lot of media attention because of an action he took with the American flag. He says he was just doing the right thing.
Michael Pritchard, a man who’s never been in the military or even Boy Scouts, was on his way home from church with his pregnant wife when he noticed that a U.S. flag was on the ground. It had fallen off of its pole in front of an area bank during a rainstorm.
Pritchard pulled over in the pouring rain, picked the flag up, and properly folded it — a skill he said he picked up in elementary school. Pritchard then returned the flag to the bank who is having it properly cleaned and rehung.
U.S. Flag Code does allow for a flag to be cleaned and displayed again if it touches the ground as long as it is not otherwise damaged. The only time a flag must be burned is when it is considered unfit for display.
From the Flag Code:
§176. Respect for flag
(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

I thank this young man for taking care of the flag and returning it to its proper form. I wish we had a whole nation of patriots like this. Let us know what you think about his actions in our comment section below.
