South Carolina holds importance in the presidential campaigns as it is one of the early primary states. This should give Senator Lindsey Graham added influence, since it is his home and he has won statewide elections. But, it has not. And Donald Trump took to twitter to taunt Graham on this.
Congrats @LindseyGrahamSC. You just got 4 points in your home state of SC—far better than zero nationally. You’re only 26 pts behind me.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 25, 2015
Graham defiantly went on CNN to combat Trump’s assertion that the Senator will lose badly in his home state. Even though he is low in the polls, Graham claimed that he will be victorious over Trump.
“Come to South Carolina, and I’ll beat his brains out. I know my state. This is a silly season in politics.
He is shallow. He is ill prepared to be commander in chief,” Graham said. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about or how our laws work. He says the worst things possible about immigrants and women. And he’s a complete idiot when it comes to Mideast policy.”
Graham completely dismisses Trump supporters as birthers. This is not a wise tactic as the eventual nominee will likely need to embrace and welcome Trump’s supporters.
