Getting around used to be a challenge for 11-year-old Bella Burton. Because of a rare genetic condition called Morquio Syndrome that affects her bones, she couldn’t walk without crutches, and often used a wheelchair.
That all changed when she got her Great Dane, George.
Even after nine major surgeries, getting around has never been easy for Bella, but it’s a lot better since she started enzyme transfusions June 2014, and since her buddy George moved in earlier this year.
“I had wheelchairs, walkers, Canadian crutches, regular crutches, and then we got George and I dropped my crutches and started to use him,” Bella said.
“He knows what to do,” she said. “He knows where all my classes are.”
And as handsome and sweet as George is, when he’s out and about with Bella, he’s off limits to everyone else.
