On more than one occasion, it’s come out that the architect of Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber, counted on the ‘stupidity’ of the American people in order to get the bill passed. In the original video that surfaced he said the following:
This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scores the mandate as taxes the bill dies. So it’s written to do that… If you get a law that says healthy people are going to pay and sick people would get money, it would not have passed.
Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And, basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really very very critical to get the thing to pass. And, you know, it’s the second best argument. I wish Mark was right we could make this transparent but I would rather have this law than not.
Not surprisingly, Obamacare’s apologists in the media are ignoring what conservative pundits have deemed #GruberGate. Despite reporting on a ‘surge’ in signups (ignoring recently released low numbers), the mainstream media’s networks can’t seem to be bothered to report on a major aspect of how a law which reshaped American healthcare was written and passed. The Media Research Center has the story:
On Friday, the group American Commitment uploaded a video to YouTube of ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber telling a group of healthcare economists in 2013 that the “lack of transparency” regarding the bill’s contents and “the stupidity of the American voter” were critical to its passage through Congress in 2010.
Since the video was uploaded, the major English and Spanish broadcast networks of ABC, CBS, NBC, Univision, and Telemundo have chosen not to cover this devastating video on either their morning or evening newscasts. During the day on Monday alone, Gruber’s comments were covered on cable news channels CNN and the Fox News Channel (FNC) in addition to news sites ranging from The Daily Signal to Forbes to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Not only does Jonathan Gruber think Americans are stupid, but the networks tasked with reporting on the news do as well. Truth be told, Gruber and the networks aren’t saying anything we don’t know, it was always clear how little regard liberals and their apologists in the media have for the average American. Nevertheless, it’s somewhat refreshing to see their deep their contempt for the American people caught on tape, which will never be aired on national television. Thankfully for the average American, we have alternatives not only for media, but also for politicians. Given the falling ratings for network news and the total Republican takeover of the House and the Senate, it seems Americans are apprising themselves of those alternatives.
How much have you been following news of Gruber’s comments?
