Nashville legend Loretta Lynn is throwing her hat in the ring for Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump.
“Trump has sold me – what more can I say?” Lynn told a Reuters reporter.
The country star, awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2013, said she’s not only supporting Trump but that she’d like to hit the campaign trail with him. This, despite the fact that she’s 83 years young.
Other Republicans can’t live up to the real estate mogul, Lynn said, but Texas Senator Ted Cruz would be her second choice.
However, she said: “When you’re advertising for the best, forget the rest!”
Lynn added that she wants to campaign for him.
“I just think he’s the only one who’s going to turn this country around,” she said, but added she had no plans to try to contact Trump herself. “I’m going to let him call me.”
Lynn said that her crowds are generally supportive of her comments on Trump, and took a shot at Hillary Clinton in the process.
“When you get up there and try to say you want to see Hillary Clinton win, that wouldn’t go over so big,” she said.
Lynn will be the subject of an upcoming PBS documentary.
The documentary entitled, ‘Loretta Lynn: Still a Mountain Girl’ is part of PBS’ ‘American Masters’ series. The documentary premiering March 4th will include interviews from family members as well as longtime fans and famous friends like Jack White, Garth Brooks. and Reba McEntire. The country star commented, “Being part of the American Masters series makes you feel like, ‘Hey, I really have accomplished something great.”
