There was yet another shocking terrorist attack, one of many recently, which struck in the heart of Jerusalem at a synagogue during morning prayers. One moment, prominent rabbis in their 40s and 50s were praying with prayer shawls and phylacteries, the next, men wielding axes, meat cleavers and a gun. Seven minutes of horror later, five Israeli Jews were dead, their blood staining the floors and their prayer books. This comes in the wake of other horrific attacks, like the fatal stabbing of a 25-year old woman at a bus stop and a car killing a baby, also at a bus stop.
Those who follow Western coverage of Israeli news are used to a certain amount of bias, like this tweet from a Canadian news agency following today’s attack:
Coverage of the attack south of the border, in the U.S. wasn’t any less deplorable. As residents of Gaza handed out sweets to celebrate the attack, CNN aired two headlines which cross the line from bias to pure malicious lying, for which whomever authored the following two headlines should be fired.
The first headline, describing two Palestinians in the same breath as four Israeli civilians, makes equal the lives of innocents and their murderers. Imagine seeing headlines about 9/11 describing the deaths of 2,996 Americans and in the same breath, the 19 hijackers who took their lives.
The second headline is unequivocally and provably false; there was never any confusion about where the attack took place or who its victims were, even in the first minutes, as evidenced by this live blog on the attacks run by the Times of Israel. This was a purposefully made falsehood designed to obfuscate the real innocent victims of a horrifying and brutal terrorist attack for political motives.
Do you think these CNN headlines were falsely written intentionally or by accident?
