MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry made some bizarre comments about Star Wars during a recent panel discussion on her self-titled weekend show. Harris-Perry says she has feelings “good bad and otherwise” about the films.
I think the trauma she said she had as a child was being dropped on her head as an infant. This woman should not be connected in any way with media because she is so openly racist, and yes I said it.
She points out that Darth Vader was “black” and voiced by a black guy when he was “running around chopping people’s hands off,” but after he accepts his son and turns good, he takes off his mask to reveal a white guy.
“Yeah, like, the part where [Darth Vader] was totally a black guy whose name basically was James Earl Jones…but while he was black, he was terrible and bad and awful and used to cut off white men’s hands, and didn’t, you know, actually claim his son,” she said on her MSNBC show.
“But as soon as he claims his son and goes over to the good, he takes off his mask, and he is white. Yes, I have many, many feelings about that, but I will try to put them over here.”
Harris-Perry overlooked the fact that Vader was revealed as the father of two Caucasian characters — Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia — well before he removed his mask.
Of course, fans of the series know that Anakin Skywalker (aka Darth Vader) was always meant to be a white guy. The voice of James Earl Jones was added later in post editing. Many feel that Jones was chosen because his deep voice worked well for Vader’s labored, cyborg-like voice.

What do you think of Harris-Perry’s race rant? Was this a publicity stunt to draw ratings? Remember this is the tampon earring woman and also, the one that made fun of Mitt Romney’s black grandchild.
