Watch (above) as Alshah Azmi, a kindergarten teacher in England, tries to explain on the BBC just why she should be allowed to wear a full veil when teaching her young children.
As the interview gets into details of how she ended up teaching in a non-Islamic school, it is made clear that this issue didn’t come up during her interview. In fact, she didn’t even wear the veil to the job interview!
It appears that Ms. Azmi is just wearing it now to make a point and fight this battle in courts.
As England becomes more Islam-ified, these problems are coming up more often than you might realize. Teaching children respect about religion is important, but it is not OK for children to become accustomed to such a backward, oppressive tradition. Women deserve to be treated with respect at all times, and forcing them to hide from view should be appalling to everyone in the West.
Is this a case of religious discrimination, or is Azmi going to far? Please leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
