One of the names floating around as a potential Donald Trump vice presidential pick has been former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich has enthusiastically backed Trump, as has another former speaker, John Boehner. The current speaker, Congressman Paul Ryan, has yet to make an endorsement, though it’s expected that he will eventually warm up to Trump.
While there’s been a lot of hype over Gingrich as a VP pick, both Trump and Newt himself have said little about it. That was until Sunday, when Fox News’ Chris Wallace posed the question to Gingrich over whether or not he’d accept a spot as Trump’s VP.
Former House Speaker and 2012 presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he’d consider being Donald Trump’s running mate, a job that hasn’t seemed to interest too many other GOP leaders.
“I don’t think it’s an automatic yes,” Gingrich said on “Fox News Sunday.” But, he said, “I’d be hard-pressed not to say yes,” under the right circumstances.
Gingrich, who has been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters among Republican Party leaders, entertained the possibility of serving as vice president to Trump, but noted that he would have to discuss the issue with his wife Calista.
Coincidentally, Ben Carson accidentally leaked a few potential VP picks of Trump’s as well yesterday. Among them were Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Sarah Palin, but obviously it could be anyone.
Gingrich was able to keep a Clinton in line in the nineties, maybe he’ll be able to do it again.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says, “…We’d be very hard-pressed not to say yes” if Donald Trump asks him to be Vice President. Who do you think Trump will choose to be his running-mate? For the full interview, tune into the Fox News Channel at 2pm & 6pm EST.
