Fresh off a couple weeks of Hawaiian vacation, President Barack Obama has made it clear to members of the media that he is in full gun control mode right now. The President plans to make gun control, which he sees as the biggest failure of his presidency, one of his top priorities during his remaining year in office.

On Monday, the president had a meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss what gun control measures can be enacted through executive orders. The president also scheduled an unprecedented presidential town hall meeting on CNN to discuss gun control Thursday night. Many believe this will be the springboard for his new executive orders.

However, not everyone in Washington is accepting the president’s agenda without a fight. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan spoke out against Obama’s proposed executive orders.

From New York Daily News:

“While we don’t yet know the details of the plan, the president is at minimum subverting the legislative branch, and potentially overturning its will,” Ryan said. “His proposals to restrict gun rights were debated by the United States Senate, and they were rejected. No president should be able to reverse legislative failure by executive fiat, not even incrementally.”

Ryan put the issue back on mental illness as opposed to guns, saying, “We have seen consistently that an underlying cause of these attacks has been mental illness, and we should look at ways to address this problem.”

It is believed that President Obama will attempt to expand background check procedures and/or expand who must obtain a federal firearms license when they buy or sell firearms.

No matter how you look at it, whatever actions or words Ryan gives as Speaker of the House do not carry weight with a lot of conservatives at this moment.

What do you think about Ryan speaking out against Obama on this issue knowing he caved on $1.14T Omnibill? Share your thoughts below.
