Politifact Debunks Obama’s LIES on Mass Shootings

barack obama

It’s a bad sign when even Politifact, which has a reputation for being left of center, decides to call you out for a lie on gun control!

Following the recent shooting in Oregon, Barack Obama stated that “But we are not the only country on Earth that has people with mental illnesses who want to do harm to other people. We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees these kinds of mass shootings every few months,” a statement that can only be made with a straight face if you haven’t bothered to actually look at what occurs in other countries.

Politifact fact-checked a similar statement Obama made last June, but Obama didn’t let the facts get in the way. Politifact notes that America does have more mass shooting fatalities than the eleven first world nations they examined, but in part because our population is so much larger than most other countries. Norway and Switzerland actually had more mass shootings relative to population than America.

As for their ruling:

The data shows that it clearly happens in other countries, and in at least three of them, there’s evidence that the rate of killings in mass-shooting events occurred at a higher per-capita rate than in the United States between 2000 and 2014. The only partial support for Obama’s claim is that the per-capita gun-incident fatality rate in the United States does rank in the top one-third of the list of 11 countries studied. On balance, we rate the claim Mostly False.

  2. Jane says:

Problem is that if you remove the 5 cities with the most gun violent crime (Chicago, DC, Detroit and a couple of others.. ALL RUN BY DEMOCRATS and they all have very strong gun laws) we drop down to the bottom 3rd. Making the rest of the country is among the safest in the World.

But he supports the killing of 730,000 innocent babies annually. Hypocrite!!!
