When it comes to cities that have proven gun control fails, Chicago takes the cake.
The political left’s response to gun violence is typically more gun control, even though the places with the biggest problems tend to sport harsher firearm restrictions, and criminals by definition ignore laws. Another fundamental problem with the left’s approach to gun violence is that legislation proposed by Democrats stems from the fact that they know little about guns in the first place. They tend to target the “scary” guns (AR-15s, and other rifles that they falsely think are automatic weapons), rather than the ones that actually kill the most people (handguns). Of course, gun control fails regardless, but it shows how little they actually know about the nature of the problem.
Chicago proves just that.
In 2016, there were almost 800 murders in the city – breaking a record that is decades old.
At 778 confirmed homicides, it’s the worst murder rate since 1996.

By comparison, in 2013, there were 441 murders, 432 in 2014 and 492 in 2015. This last year’s 778 is a 58 percent jump. The rate is so staggeringly high, it’s driving up the national statistics.
Consider this statistic: The homicide rate for the country’s 30 biggest cities is expected to go up by 14 percent this year, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, a New York-based law and policy institute. But the killings in Chicago account for an astounding 43.7 percent of this overall increase in killings, meaning that Chicago alone is responsible for nearly half of this spike.
Yup – so a city with extremely strict gun control is the one responsible for bringing up the nation’s gun violence statistics. Well done liberals!
