Gretchen Carlson, a popular former Fox News host, is suing the company’s CEO Roger Ailes for “sexual misconduct.”
From Daily Mail:
Fox News CEO Roger Ailes has furiously denied claims he sexually harassed Gretchen Carlson, insisting she only filed her lawsuit because she knew she was about to lose her job.
Carlson, 50, alleged that Ailes, 75, sacked her on June 23 after 11 years with the network because she refused to have sex with him.
Her former boss hit back on Wednesday night, claiming the popular host of The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson only filed the suit because she knew her contract was not going to be renewed.
‘Gretchen Carlson’s allegations are false. This is a retaliatory suit for the network’s decision not to renew her contract, which was due to the fact that her disappointingly low ratings were dragging down the afternoon lineup,’ Ailes said.
He added: ‘When Fox News did not commence any negotiations to renew her contract, Ms Carlson became aware that her career with the network was likely over and conveniently began to pursue a lawsuit.
‘Ironically, Fox News provided her with more on-air opportunities over her 11-year tenure than any other employer in the industry, for which she thanked me in her recent book.
‘This defamatory lawsuit is not only offensive, it is wholly without merit and will be defended vigorously,’ Ailes said.
The facts will come out. Regardless, Fox is losing one of its best employees. See you again soon, Ms. Carlson: you won’t be unemployed for long!
Any man who uses his position of power to sexually prey on women deserves jail and never to have a position of power again. I feel for Gretchen. What kind of creep would treat her like that?! If the allegations are true, it could be quid quo pro sexual harassment to say a person will lose their job if they won’t sleep with the boss.
