Just about everyone in America has an opinion about the whole Colin Kaepernick National Anthem protest, from President Obama to Kaepernick’s own mother (whose spoken negatively about it).
Apparently, now even members of our own Supreme Court are weighing in, the first being Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ginsburg recently sat down with Katie Couric to conduct an interview with Yahoo News, where she was asked to give her thoughts on NFL players bowing the knee to protest perceived racial inequality in America (a nation that pays him $19 million a year to toss around a football).
Her answer has been quite unsettling to her fellow liberals.
“I think it’s really dumb of them,” Ginsburg told Couric. “Would I arrest them for doing it? No.”
“I think it’s dumb and disrespectful. I would have the same answer if you asked me about flag burning,” she added. “I think it’s a terrible thing to do, but I wouldn’t lock a person up for doing it. I would point out how ridiculous it seems to me to do such an act.”
When asked by Couric to elaborate on the legality of the protests, Ginsburg doubled down on her feelings that the protests are in no way pragmatic.
“If they want to be stupid, there’s no law that should be preventive. If they want to be arrogant, there’s no law that prevents them from that,” the Supreme Court justice said. “What I would do is strongly take issue with the point of view that they are expressing when they do that.”
It’s hard to believe such a rational well thought out answer to this debacle would be given by such a staunch liberal. Perhaps one of these days, this same line of reasoning will penetrate the thick heads of professional athletes (which I’m not counting on).
If only she was as wise when making decisions on the Supreme Court.
