What Was This School Thinking? Parents IRATE Over THIS Classroom Exercise

Virginia school

A calligraphy class in a Virginia school district has parents upset – and for good reason!

The students at Riverheads High School in Staunton were told to practice their calligraphy skills by copying the image above, and were not told what it is.

That image is the shahada, the Muslim statement of faith. It means “There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

Parents are upset but the district, which also invited female students to wear Muslim clothing, stands by the practice.

“Neither these lessons, nor any other lesson in the world geography course, are an attempt at indoctrination to Islam or any other religion, or a request for students to renounce their own faith or profess any belief,” the district said in a statement provided to Fox News.

“The statement presented as an example of the calligraphy was not translated for students, nor were students asked to translate it, recite it or otherwise adopt or pronounce it as a personal belief,” the district stated.

Instead, the district says it was about the art of the Arab language.

“They were simply asked to attempt to artistically render written Arabic in order to understand its artistic complexity,” they stated.

Yet out of all the Arabic phrases that could have been used, the teacher chose the Islamic statement of faith to Allah?

Perhaps the next time the kids at Riverheads High School practice their calligraphy skills they can learn a new word — “indoctrination.”

Perhaps the school district should use this word next time: التلقين. It means indoctrination.

What happened to separation of church & State? Having the women wear Muslim clothing and writing the Muslim statement of faith. The teacher should be fired. I’d have pulled my child out of school and home schooled them after this

  2. Randi says:

Why not teach children American history se teachers should be fired.
