Second Amendment supporters in Texas may get a late Christmas present.
Election Day 2014 left the state with a Republican-dominated legislature and a Republican Governor who are both expected to make a push for gun rights.
The day after his election, Governor-Elect Greg Abbot said:
“If open carry is good enough for Massachusetts, it’s good enough for the state of Texas.”
Texas State Representative Jonathan Stickland has already filed a bill for the next legislative session which would eliminate the licensing requirement for concealed and open carry. He said:
“The idea is we’re going to return our Second Amendment rights. I can’t imagine what the citizens would do if they had to take a class or pay a fee to use their First Amendment rights.”
