The New England Police Benevolent Association is scheduled to host Donald Trump as their ‘guest of honor’ Thursday evening during an executive board meeting dubbed the “Presidential Candidate’s Forum.” Despite bipartisan criticism against Trump, the NEPBA appears to be positioning themselves to endorse the leading GOP candidate during the event.
According to the SeacoastOnline
Trump’s campaign confirmed the visit in a press release Tuesday evening, saying that Trump “will participate in the New England Police Benevolent Association Executive Meeting.”
Whether Trump gets the union’s endorsement is unknown. But Jerry Flynn, the NEPBA’s executive director, recently posted his support for Trump on his personal Facebook page where he called Trump, “The NEXT president of the United States of America.”
Flynn said Tuesday the NHPBA’s nine-member executive board will vote to either endorse Trump, or no one.
“It remains to be seen,” he said.
Flynn said he was joined by three other members of the union’s board for the personal meeting with Trump.
In a letter to presidential campaign directors, which Flynn wrote in November, he said that, “unlike other labor unions we do not simply endorse a candidate from a particular party nor do we endorse any candidate that our executive committee has not personally vetted.” In the letter, provided to the Portsmouth Herald, Flynn requested the presence of seven presidential candidates for Thursday’s meeting of the NEPBA’s executive committee, “for consideration of our endorsement for President of the United States of America.”
“In fact, the New England PBA will NOT endorse any candidate who does NOT personally attend our candidate forum,” Flynn wrote.
The NEPBA also extended offers to Republican candidates Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, and Ben Carson to attend the meeting along with Democratic nominees Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley.
Flynn says only Trump and Bush committed to attend, but Bush ended up having to cancel.
You would think the candidates would have time for this as most of them talk about how important our law enforcement officers are!
