Rita Richardson is an avid JC Penney’s shopper. She is also a member of the outrage police. The Florida woman was so offended that the store was marketing a tank top that says, “Suns Out Guns Out” that she sprung into action and called her local TV station in attempt to halt sales of the shirt.
Richardson believed the shirt was advocating for gun violence. But it is commonly recognized that the guns referenced on the shirt are muscles, not actual guns. Like many in the outrage police, humor is not her strong suit.
“I just thought it was sad that a major retailers like JC Penney would want its brand associated with something that advocates, glorifies gun violence.”
Richardson’s concerns are mockable in nature as she was so offended by a benign shirt in a store flyer that she felt compelled to get media involved to warn the public. It must have taken some serious restraint for this reporter to keep a straight face when interviewing Richardson.
