This Picture Had the Entire Internet Asking: “What the Heck Is That?” Now We Finally Have the Answer!

baby-X-ray

Ever since the photo appeared on social network Reddit, the internet has erupted in a bout of head scratching as people ask:

Just what the heck is that thing?

Uploaded to Reddit by user Bretstar, who claims he once worked in a hospital, the photo shows a cute little baby squished into a clear tube.

So what is it? Food blender? Margarita mixer? Or some fiendish super weapon created by Dr. Mindbender?

Nope, nope, and nope. It’s actually a specially designed contraption for babies who are having an x-ray. Babies, you see, can be a little wriggly, so it’s best to keep them safe and confined when having medical tests done.

In case you curious, this is what the machine looks like without a baby:

So there you go, internet, problem solved. You can get back to looking at cat pictures.

I am retired x-ray tech. Used this often. It helps keep babies safe mostly for chest x-rays. We need 2 views and it turns keeping babies safe. They don’t like it so they cry which is good because we get lungs expanded for radiologist to better read. Sounds mean but it helps to get the best diagnosis which is necessary for proper r reatment when baby is sick.

I knew what is was as my son had the same thing done to him 23 years ago.. They were doing a xray on him to check his bone growth because he was small for his age..

They couldn’t have picked a cuter baby for this picture if they tried, what a sweetie.
