Numerous celebrities made stands for their Christian faith in 2014, and we documented some of the best Christian moments. Here’s a look back at the stories:
- Matthew McConaughey
Famous Actor Matthew McConaughey took a stand for biblical marriage. He said of his decision to get married:
“We did a lot of reading and talked to a lot of people that had been divorced, a lot of people that had been happily married. We talked to our pastor. In the end, our understanding was, ‘Let’s go make a covenant, with you, me, and God.”
- Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning opened up about his Christian faith in a book he wrote for his father, Manning:
“Christians drink beer. So do non-Christians. Christians also make mistakes, just as non-Christians do. My faith doesn’t make me perfect, it makes me forgiven, and provides me the assurance I looked for half my life ago. I think God answered our prayers with Cooper, and that was a test of our faith. But I also think I’ve been blessed—having so little go wrong in my life, and being given so much. I pray every night, sometimes long prayers about a lot of things and a lot of people, but I don’t talk about it or brag about it because that’s between God and me, and I’m no better than anybody else in God’s sight.
But I consider myself fortunate to be able to go to Him for guidance, and I hope (and pray) I don’t do too many things that displease Him before I get to Heaven myself.”
- Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is directing Unbroken, a film about Christian war hero Louis Zamperini, WWII prisoner of war. It turns out the subject of her film inspired Jolie in a moment of prayer when there were problems filming the final scene.
“She was not a person of faith and had never prayed before but she found herself at the very last scene of the movie…They needed sunlight to shoot this very important scene and there had been a storm that had been going for a while.
[Angelina] said ‘I don’t know what I’m going to do so I’ll do what Louie would do.’ She got on her knees and she prayed for a miracle…everybody saw it.”
- Carrie Underwood
Last but certainly not least, Carrie Underwood inspired us all and infuriated atheists with her new hit song, “Something in the Water.”
