Her name is the USS Little Rock. She cost we taxpayers $360 million dollars, and is the ninth littoral combat ship manufactured by Lockheed Martin for the US Navy.
But how do you get such an enormous, and enormously expensive ship safely into the water once you’re done building her?
The answer? Not easily:
As you can see, the Little Rock was officially launched this weekend on the Menominee River in Wisconsin. And yes, the ride looked a little queasy. Believe it or not, this is a “slide fashion” launch, which Lockheed uses for many of the ships it manufactures at its Marinette Marine Corporation shipyard.
Months of testing remain before she is officially handed over to the Navy.
