Outspoken illegal immigration critic, and long time Sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio, loves America. And he wants to ensure those under his watch do as well.
In a recent interview with Breitbart News, Arpaio reveals that he makes inmates in his jail system honor the American flag in a very unique way.
He places an American flag in every cell, and if anybody disrespects it in any manner, they’re meals are reduced to bread and water.
Lastly, we talked to Sheriff Arpaio about honoring America in his jail system. Our goal was to figure out if there are certain things he and his deputies regularly undertake to honor America or the ideals of America in the presence of the inmates.
Sheriff Arpaio told us that he “put American flags in every cell” in the jail system and “if anybody tinkers or messes around with that flag [he puts] them on bread and water.” Moreover, he said, “everybody hears ‘God Bless America’ and the ‘National Anthem’ every day. And they can sing those songs.”
Sheriff Joe is no joke either – a report last year indicated that he indeed did place dozens of prisoners on meals of bread and water for desecrating the flag.
Via Fox News:
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of Maricopa County, told the news agency that 38 inmates in six different jails were getting meals of bread and water twice daily – the punishment for destroying government property while in custody.
“These inmates have destroyed the American flag that was placed in their cells. Tearing them, writing on them, stepping on them, throwing them in the toilet, trash or wherever they feel,” Arpaio said in a statement. “It’s a disgrace to those who have fought for our country.”
Arpaio also revealed that he gives veterans different treatment, such as specialized meals on Flag Day, placement within the jail together as a group, etc.
The veterans area in his jail? “I haven’t had any problems, assaults or anything else, in that area,” he explained.
