Why Does This GOP Strategist Want Hillary Clinton to Win?

hillary clinton

GOP strategist, Mary Matalin, appeared on Bloomberg Television earlier this week, and proclaimed that Hillary Clinton is actually the candidate they would like to see win the nomination on the Democrat side of the aisle.

Matalin contends that Hillary is “last year’s calendar,” and the only hope she has of winning is to starkly contrast herself from the Obama administration.

Still, Matalin claimed she’s praying for a Hillary win. Not just because she’ll be easy to beat, but because she “will be more than easy to beat.”

Here is a partial transcript of the exchange:

MARK HALPERIN, co-host “With All Due Respect”: If Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee, will she be easy to beat or hard to beat in the general election and why?

MATALIN: I’m not saying this as a partisan, I’m saying it as a citizen, as a mother, having some age on me… She is last year’s calendar. The only way you can win a third term, either party for a third term of Obama is to separate herself or to say something different, be or offer the same thing in a better way —

HALPERIN: You’re saying that she will be easy to beat?

MATALIN: I pray that she is the nominee, and if she is that will mean she had a very weak primary field.

HALPERIN: Mary. Say the words: “Hillary Clinton will be easy to beat.”

MATALIN: Hillary Clinton will be more than easy to beat. It will release us from our pitiful strategy of the last couple cycles or running against something and be able to run on something we have plenty of — principles and policies.

Matalin continued, saying Clinton simply “is not that good” and “not that strong” a candidate.

Watch the exchange below…

Recent polls have shown Clinton taking a big hit in ‘trustworthiness’ and ‘favorability.’

Matalin may have a point considering the media certainly won’t be fawning all over Clinton the way they did for Obama in 2008 and again in 2012.

But do you agree that she’ll be easy to defeat in 2016? Share your opinion below.
