If you own a radio, you’ve heard a song by Adele before (and probably a hundred times, at that). Since her debut, the singer has received 10 Grammy Awards, 13 Billboard Music Awards, 4 American Music Awards, among literally hundreds others.
But you’ll never guess which conservative politician she credits for her success.
Palin was scheduled to appear on the comedy sketch show in Oct. 2008, the week after Adele was set to perform as the show’s music guest. Due to a scheduling conflict, Palin was forced to reschedule, and ended up appearing on the episode with Adele.
“Something came up in the campaign,” Adele told the BBC. “She came and did SNL the week I was doing it.”
The episode would go on to become one of the highest-rated SNL episodes ever, and the British singer now gives full credit to the former Vice Presidential candidate for helping carve her path to superstardom in the U.S.
“The album shot to number one on iTunes and I was nominated for a Grammy, and then I won one! It was a joke! It was a joke. All thanks to Sarah Palin!” said Adele.
